![]() ![]() ![]() The next object of Dalton’s attention was atmosphere itself. Early “germs” of his physical ideas may be found in the initial meteorological studies where water vapour is viewed as an “elastic fluid sui generis” diffused in the atmosphere and not as a species chemically combined with the other atmospheric gases. The purpose of this paper is to review Dalton’s contributions to science in various fields of research in relation to the first intimation of the chemical atomic theory. Salvi has broadened his scientific curiosity and has become interested in the historical aspects of Chemistry and Thermodynamics in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. Salvi have been concentrated over the years in several fields of research and may be summarized as follows: two-phonon absorption in molecular crystals, non-linear laser absorption of aromatic molecules, fluorescence emission and photochemistry of organic compounds, ultrafast relaxation dynamics in porphyrins and metalloporphyrins, vibrational properties of fullerenes and derivatives, photoacoustic spectroscopy of organic polymers and nanomaterials, infrared and Raman spectroscopy of biology related molecular systems. He has spent periods of research abroad in two US universities, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, as a research associate in the years 86. Salvi coauthored more than 120 scientific papers in refereed international journals in the area of Chemistry and Physics collaborating with several high level Italian and foreign scientists, among which V. Pier Remigio Salvi is presently retired Professor of Physical Chemistry of the University of Florence where he served as Director of the Chemistry Department “U. ![]()
